Just as it happened with the ladies' matches, Tungurahua won the National Basketball Championship title, category U-16, now in the boys' competition whose matches were held last weekend at the Rumiñahui coliseum in Quito.
Importadora Alvarado-Fedetungurahua started with a victory in the final four of the tournament organized by the Ecuadorian Basketball Federation (FEB) by beating Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito (LDU) by a narrow 69-67.
Then the Tungurahuense representation celebrated again when they won 70-43 against Monsters, from Pichincha, and came close to achieving the goal of winning the national title.
The importing team closed their participation with a third triumph, now against Chamos, from Guayas, which they defeated with a score of 60-55, overall.
With the three victories, the team led by Diego Cruz scored 6 points, reached 199 baskets in favor and received 165, for an average of 34 baskets in their favor.
Participating with the team were Mateus Abril, Eduardo Molina, Alexander Rosero, Alexis Gavilánez, Rodrigo Real, Diego Fernando González, Edwin Rodríguez, Carlos Eduardo Carrillo, Antonio Eduardo Guerrero, José Miguel Muñoz, José Matías Vintimilla, Ariel Montalvo, and Mateo Sebastián Moncayo.
Runner-up
The second place in the classification went to LDU, with 5 units, resulting from two victories and one defeat. They won 57-47 against Monsters and 54-40 against Los Chamos; they had previously lost to the tournament champions.
In the final table, the university team scored 178 baskets in their favor and 156 against, for a positive difference of 22 units.
In group B (consolation), the winning team was Básquet KLZ club, from Manabí, who scored 6 points.
Consolation groups
With the aim of keeping the teams that participated from the first stage active, the organization of the national tournament brought together the teams that did not qualify for the final in two groups.
Third series
In series C, the winner was AKD Napo club, who scored 6 points for their victories against Rincón de Castilla, JS Básquet, and Triple E-UDA. (D)
