Francesco Balbi, personal legal advisor to Paolo Guerrero, clarified the role that the World Anti-Doping Agency will play in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The lawyer for the captain of the Peruvian National Team said that it is not an appeal.
"It is not an appeal, it is a participation in the process, in the end there cannot be two more arbitrations in the CAS, in the end it is Paolo against FIFA, the participation of the lawyer only delays the process. Paolo is calm, there is nothing to be alarmed about," he said on RPP.
Today more than ever!: on Valentine's Day fans show their love for Paolo Guerrero with great drawings.
"With Pedro Fida and Juan de Dios Crespo (Lawyers of Paolo Guerrero) we always knew about all the possibilities and we are really calm. This was something that was already known two weeks ago. If WADA had appealed today it would have been unfounded," he added.
Balbi explained that it is a completely private legal arbitration and that it is handled this way because it involves personal characteristics of an athlete. He said that it is notified to the Brazilian and Peruvian federations, the player, WADA, FIFA and the lawyers. "They are the only ones who can have access to the results," he said.
"During the first days of the month we were notified by WADA. Pedro Fida wanted this to be seen with a single arbitrator for it to be more expeditious. FIFA accepted that the process be expeditious, with a maximum time of one month, but they did not accept the single arbitrator but a collegiate arbitration," he explained.
