Ecuador will have some absences for the restart of the 2018 Russia Qualifiers. The 'tricolor' team will first play against Brazil and then host the Peruvian National Team in Quito. Luis Caicedo and Jefferson Orejuela will not be available for the first match due to suspensions, as confirmed by coach Gustavo Quinteros.
Caicedo and Orejuela will miss the match against Brazil on August 31 in Porto Alegre due to accumulating two yellow cards each.
The coach also announced that Frickson Erazo, Arturo Mina, Alexander Domínguez, Jefferson Montero, Miller Bolaños, and Juan Carlos Paredes will not be called up for the match against Peru on August 21. In other words, these six players will not be considered.
Erazo has lost his starting position at Atlético Mineiro in Brazil due to injuries. The same goes for Miller Bolaños at Gremio and Jefferson Montero at Swansea in England.
Lack of continuity. Mina has been training with the reserves at River Plate due to poor performance, Paredes has just joined and started training with Emelec, and Domínguez is in the same situation with his new club, Colón in Argentina.
Ecuador had a spectacular start to the Qualifiers with four consecutive victories, but then declined to sixth place, outside the qualification zone, with 20 points, with four matchdays remaining in the South American qualifiers.
