The Peruvian national team is ready for the World Cup qualifying match against Ecuador on September 5 in Quito, although it is "unlikely" that they will perform a previous recognition of the Olympic Atahualpa Stadium, said today the national team manager, Antonio García Pye.
The leader declared to Radio Ovación radio station that the logistical aspects of the match between Peru and Ecuador have already been defined, as well as the previous match against Bolivia on August 31 in Lima.
"Last week I traveled with Professor (Néstor) Bonillo to Quito, we were seeing the possible concentrations, the security protocol, we were at the complex of the Ecuadorian federation, among others things, everything is on track," he explained.
García Pye anticipated that "the recognition of the stadium" in Quito prior to the match is unlikely, considering that "it will be preferred to rest and focus on the match".
"The stadium field is in an intermediate state. There are four matches being played that will reduce to two, they are doing the necessary work to ensure the field is in good condition," he commented.
The members of Peru's coaching staff, led by Argentine Ricardo Gareca, have started a tour to visit potential players who play for foreign teams, in preparation for the resumption of the World Cup qualifiers.
Gareca left for Madrid on Wednesday, and according to local media, from there he will go to Portugal to talk to André Carrillo, a player from Benfica who could replace forward Paolo Guerrero, who will be suspended and cannot play against Bolivia in Lima.
Assistant coach Nolberto Solano stated that in the planned itinerary of visits, he has been assigned to visit attacking midfielder Jefferson Farfán, from Russian club Lokomotiv, and defenders Carlos Zambrano from Russian club Rubin Kazán, and Alexander Callens from New York City in the United States.
Physical trainer Bonillo already met last Friday in Guayaquil with defender Christian Ramos from Emelec in Ecuador, with whom he discussed his performance in the team and his potential call-up.
