Former Paraguayan athlete and coach Francisco "Pingui" Figueredo dies in a traffic accident
Former athlete and Paraguayan national record holder in the 800 meters, Francisco "Pingui" Figueredo, passed away on Monday at the age of 59, as a result of a traffic accident in the city of Fernando de la Mora.
According to the report by the newspaper Última Hora, Figueredo attempted to cross Avenida Acceso Sur when he was hit by a truck. He was assisted and later transferred to Villa Elisa Hospital where his death was confirmed.
"Pingui" has held the national record in the 800 meters for 32 years, with a time of 1:50.17 established during the Pan American Games in Indianapolis, United States.
After the athlete's death was confirmed, the Paraguayan Athletics Federation issued a statement lamenting the incident and highlighting the professional's great work in favor of Paraguayan sports.
