Toluca Club will celebrate its Centennial next Sunday at the Nemesio Diez Stadium, a venue that has also hosted the Governors of the State of Mexico on more than one occasion.

The Toluca Sports Club celebrates its centenary today

A hundred years of history where multiple generations have enjoyed each achievement of the scarlet team. From children to young people and adults, they have come to Nemesio Diez to witness the great feats of their players.

The renovated venue has also been a political showcase. We have seen various governors of the State of Mexico who, in recent years, have been protagonists of several historical events of the club. Here are some examples:

CÉSAR CAMACHO

Former governor of the State of Mexico from 1995 to 1999. He witnessed the beginning of the so-called 'Golden Age' of the team. A frequent visitor to La Bombonera, he witnessed the championships won against Necaxa and the unforgettable victory in penalties against Atlas.

ARTURO MONTIEL

Arturo Montiel is a die-hard fan of the Diablos and was the governor of the State of Mexico from 1999 to 2005. To this day, he can be seen in the VIP seats of the remodeled Nemesio Diez. He even attended on one occasion with the 'Perra Brava' supporters group, as tradition dictates, shirtless. He witnessed the championships against Santos and Morelia in 2000 and 2002, respectively. The latter he experienced with the then Governor of Michoacán, Lázaro Cárdenas.

ENRIQUE PEÑA NIETO

Enrique Peña Nieto was one of the governors seen most frequently at 'La Bombonera', despite not being a Toluca fan. In reality, he supports Club América, but he was seen several times at Nemesio Diez wearing the colors of the Diablos.

It was not surprising to see the current president at major games, such as the finals against Cruz Azul and Santos, both editions won by Toluca in penalty shootouts. In fact, he posed with the team and received his medal in the 2010 title.

ERUVIEL ÁVILA

The current governor of the state has not been able to celebrate any scarlet titles, although he has been present at important events of the club, despite being a follower of Pumas UNAM.

Ávila was present at the unveiling of the club's emblem statue, Don Nemesio Diez. He attended the celebration of the team's 95th anniversary and will be in the front row for the Centennial celebrations, where he hopes to celebrate the eleventh scarlet star.
