Two months after his controversial departure to Jaguares de Chiapas, the experienced Mexican goalkeeper will face the blue and yellow team in Clausura 2017.
If during a decade he was at Monarcas Morelia , the truth is that the best moments of his career were lived in the goal of América , the club he joined for Clausura 2012 as part of the new project that Ricardo Peláez and Miguel Herrera were starting. Since then, Moisés Muñoz became the Eagles' goalkeeper and quickly became one of the club's idols.
With the conquest of Clausura 2013 and Apertura 2014, in addition to Concachampions 2014-15 and 2015-16, no one can deny that Muñoz earned a place in América's history. That is the reason why his departure to Jaguares de Chiapas was one of the most controversial moves of the past transfer window, after América announced the signing of Agustín Marchesín for Clausura 2017.
Therefore, in Goal we remember the best moments of the Mexican goalkeeper with América, the club he will face today in a postponed match of the first round of the tournament.
DEBUT WITH AMÉRICA
On January 7, 2012, at La Corregidora, Muñoz played his first official match with Mexico's winningest team. And his debut couldn't have been better, as Miguel Herrera's team, with goals from Christian Benítez and Juan Carlos Medina, won 2-0 against Gallos Blancos de Querétaro.
MOISÉS' MIRACLE
Undoubtedly, one of his most important performances with América. The game was almost over at Estadio Azteca, where Cruz Azul was becoming the champion of Clausura 2013. However, Muñoz jumped into the attack and, with a header, managed to tie the game in the last gasp to take the final to a penalty shootout.
A PERFECT NIGHT
Not satisfied with the header at the end of the game, Muñoz became great in the penalty shootout. Javier Orozco was in charge of taking the first penalty kick for Cruz Azul, but the goalkeeper, in an incredible way, saved the penalty to lead América to victory.
500 MATCHES IN FIRST DIVISION
On October 1, 2016, for Matchday 12 of the Apertura tournament, Muñoz played his 500th match in the top category of Mexican football. Unfortunately, the goalkeeper couldn't celebrate it with an América victory over Rayados de Monterrey.
HIS LAST MATCH AT AZTECA STADIUM
It was the first leg of the Apertura 2016 Final. His team couldn't defeat Tigres de la UANL, but it was surely one of the most emotional matches of his career.
