Champion with Tigres in the 81-82 season and one of the most effective midfielders in the club's history, Salvador Carrillo passed away this Wednesday.

"Chava" died at the age of 74, after years of battling a severe illness. He passed away surrounded by his family, and according to some close associates, he managed to say goodbye to everyone.

He joined the Tigers in the 78-79 season and was with the UANL squad until 1983.

A fierce defender, with great ball control, and an unstoppable marker, that's who wore the number 6 jersey of the university team with grit and pride on the field.

In 1980, he was part of the Tiger team that faced Argentinos Jrs. at the University Stadium on November 12 of that year, where Diego Armando Maradona was playing as one of the biggest promises of football in South America.

He was a key piece in Carlos Milloc's tactical scheme in the conquest of the second league title in the history of the institution, alongside Sergio Orduña and Tomás Boy. In the 81-82 season, they defeated Atlante for the title in penalty shootouts.

As a coach, he led the Jabatos de Nuevo León, with whom he won the Second Division B title in the late 80s. He came very close to returning the Jabatos to the First Division, which would have created an unprecedented situation: that three teams, Tigres, Rayados, and Jabatos, divided the city of Monterrey's fans.

In recent years, he had become a successful entrepreneur in the taxi industry that serves Monterrey International Airport.
