Every year, thousands of people come to the United States in search of the 'American Dream'. For this purpose, there is the Humanitarian Parole, an exclusive process for some countries that can be useful for you if you are considering bringing a family member to the United States.

What is the Humanitarian Parole?

It is a temporary residence permit granted for urgent humanitarian or significant public benefit reasons. With this permit, you can enter the United States without any problems. It was created to solve the great crisis that existed at the border due to the high demand for illegal crossings. For this reason, 30,000 monthly permits are available to citizens of Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Haiti.

Requirements for Humanitarian Parole in the USA

The US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) states that in order to start the process, the interested party must have a valid passport, as well as a sponsor in the United States who is willing to request the person's participation in the humanitarian parole.

In addition, the sponsor must demonstrate that they have the financial resources to support the stay for two years. USCIS announced the opening for migrants who entered the country and obtained a temporary residence permit ("parolees") to apply online for their work permit with Form I-765.

How long does Humanitarian Parole last?

Normally, the temporary residence permit is granted for a period not exceeding one year. USCIS will specify the necessary period to fulfill the purpose of the permit as indicated in Part 3 of Form I-131.

Parole can end at two different times. The end will depend on the event that occurs first between the following two:

  • Date on which the permit period ends.
