If you are a Venezuelan or Cuban resident living in the United States and are interested in bringing a family member, here you can find all the information about it. As we know, many citizens left Venezuela or Cuba, especially in the last two years after the reopening of the borders due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the border facilities granted to those who dared to cross into American soil. Now, many of them want to bring their relatives, and for that there is a process called Humanitarian Parole.

Requirements for Humanitarian Parole for Venezuelans or Cubans

People who wish to apply for humanitarian parole must meet a series of requirements, and here we detail them for you:

  • Be nationals of Nicaragua, Cuba, Venezuela or Haiti.
  • Be outside of the United States.
  • Have a valid and current passport for international travel.
  • Have a sponsor with legal status in the United States who demonstrates the ability to provide financial support and any other support that may be necessary for the person requesting parole.
  • Purchase their airfare to the United States.
  • Comply with vaccination requirements and other public health requirements established by the US Government.

The following people are not eligible:

  • Have permanent residency or refugee status in any other country or have dual nationality.
  • Have received a deportation order from the United States in the previous five years or be subject to inadmissibility based on a previous expulsion order.
  • Have crossed the borders of the United States, Mexico, or Panama irregularly after January 5, 2023.

What is Humanitarian Parole about?

It is a temporary permission to stay granted for urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit. With this permission, one can enter the United States without any problems. It was created to address the major crisis at the border due to high demand for illegal crossings. Therefore, 30,000 monthly permits are available to citizens of Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Haiti.

How to process Humanitarian Parole in the USA?

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) states that to start the process, the interested party must have a valid passport, as well as a sponsor in the United States who is willing to request the person's participation in humanitarian parole.

In addition, the sponsor must demonstrate the financial resources to support the stay for two years. USCIS announced the opening for migrants who entered the country and obtained temporary stay permits ("parolees") to apply online for their work permit with Form I-765.

How long does Humanitarian Parole last?

Normally, the temporary stay permit is granted for a period not exceeding one year. USCIS will specify the necessary period to fulfill the purpose of the permit, as indicated in Part 3 of Form I-131.

Parole can end at two different moments. The end will depend on the event that occurs first between the following two:

  • The date on which the permit period ends.
  • The beneficiary leaves the United States.
