He is the chosen one! Diego Cocca was introduced as the new coach of the Mexican National Team.

After several weeks of rumors, finally on Friday, February 10th, the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) announced that Diego Cocca will be the new coach of the Mexican National Team for the road to the 2026 World Cup. The former coach of Atlas and Tigres UANL was officially presented, introduced his coaching staff, and stated that he desires players "committed" to the national team.

Rodrigo Ares de Parga, Director of National Teams, highlighted that he interviewed 5 coaches for over two months to choose the right one. "All five coaches were always considered, and at the beginning of this week, we had two meetings with the Committee and decided on Diego Cocca, whom I welcome again," he said in a press conference.

In his first words as Mexico's head coach, Diego Cocca said he is "proud" to have this challenge in his life. "For me, it is something very important, especially because I am the coach of this country that has given me so much. Mexico has made me grow as a person, as a professional, and welcomed me back as a coach," he pointed out.

Cocca emphasized that he wants players who feel committed to the Mexican national team. "I want players who wear the country's jersey, sing the anthem, and feel proud to represent this country. To achieve that, I must be the first one to feel it. This is football, and we have to win even in friendly matches. Here, you will find a team that will go out to win every game," he added.

Diego Cocca: What is his coaching staff?

During the press conference, the current head coach of the 'Tri' introduced the coaching staff that will accompany him in the journey to the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in Mexico, United States, and Canada. Diego Cocca will be accompanied by Marcelo Goux (assistant), Javier Bustos, and Renso Valinoti (fitness coaches).

Marcelo Goux, 47, is a former football player who played for several teams in Argentina. As Cocca's assistant, he was part of the coaching staff that achieved back-to-back championships with Atlas. Bustos also contributed to the back-to-back championships while Cocca was there, and he also followed him during his short adventure with Tigres. Valinoti is the youngest. At 35 years old, he has worked with youth teams in his region.
