Six of the 10 oldest players in the Liga MX will be in the Clausura 2022 playoffs; Jesús Corona, Rubens Sambueza, and Gignac stand out

Jesús Corona is the oldest player in the Liga MX, at 40 years old and he plans to retire in 2023 when his contract as a player ends. Meanwhile, Rubens Sambueza is the oldest field player in the Clausura 2022, at 38 years old, both will be part of the team in the final phase of the Clausura 2022.

Goalkeepers lead the category of the oldest players in the Liga MX. The top five are the aforementioned Jesús Corona, at 40 years old, followed by Edgar Hernández from Necaxa, and Alfredo Talavera from Pumas, both at 39 years old. The last two were eliminated in the repechage.

The top five is completed by Marcelo Barovero from Atlético de San Luis and Antony Silva from Puebla. Apart from the Cruz Azul goalkeeper, none of them are considering retirement and will fight to go as far as possible in the final phase and compete for the championship title.

In the category of oldest field players, Rubens Sambueza remains the only one at 38 years old, following the retirement of Oribe Peralta, former forward of América and Chivas. The Atlético San Luis striker signed a two-year contract with the team from San Luis Potosí, after being a key player for Toluca in the past tournament.

After Sambueza, in the field players category, there are André Pierre Gignac from Tigres and Gustavo Cabral from Pachuca, both at 36 years old. The top five is completed by Paul Aguilar, who plays for the Bravos de Juárez, and Efraín Velarde from Pumas, also in the last years of his career, with no participation in the Liguilla.

Of the six veteran players who will participate in the playoffs, Jesús Corona is a substitute, but the rest are considered starters with their respective teams, both during the regular season and now in the fight for the title.
