MONTERREY -- Ricardo Ferretti, Tigres coach, insisted that the distances between Liga Bancomer football and MLS have been shortened.
After losing 2-1 to Toronto in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions League quarter-finals, the felinos are now obliged to win at home to stay alive. In light of this, 'Tuca' ruled out any superiority of Mexican clubs over their American counterparts.
"I don't believe... if you want to believe that Mexico is still the giant, then I think you are very mistaken," he said.
Ferretti added that the team is physically prepared for the upcoming matches.
"They're fine, they trained today, recovering. It's the normal hustle, the wear and tear of playing matches in such a short time. Many times we're not used to it, but I believe my team is. It's not something new for them to have these situations of playing every two or three days," he mentioned.
GIGNAC EXPECTING CALL-UP
André-Pierre Gignac has scored eight goals in the Clausura 2018 and is Tigres' top scorer this season. In light of this, Ricardo Ferretti hopes that he continues to score and be considered for the French national team.
"I don't know, he is a member of our team and he does the best possible things. Each person does their own thing. Naturally, if he has good performances, he will be better observed by his coach. But I believe that, to a certain extent, the participation that we can have with him is for us to play collectively very well, and for him individually to continue producing as he has started to produce. We'll have to wait for a call-up," he said.
