Correcaminos UAT puts Capitanes against the ropes

Correcaminos UAT from Ciudad Victoria put Capitanes from Mexico City against the ropes, defeating them at home 86-81 in the first of three games for the semifinal spot in the National Professional Basketball League (LNBP) championship.

In this highly contested match, Correcaminos took the lead with 2:40 minutes left in the final quarter, with a spectacular three-pointer by Daniel Girón, making it 75-72. They increased and defended this advantage until the end of the game on the court of the "Juan de la Barrera" Olympic gymnasium, to the amazement of the home team's fans.

American shooting guard Justin Giddens scored 18 points for the victory, his compatriot Kennedy Jones and Cezar Guerreros contributed 15 each, and Kleon Penn from the British Virgin Islands added 13.

One aspect that partly defined the victory was the 42 rebounds won by the visiting team, compared to 36 by the home team, and Correcaminos' 48 percent shooting efficiency, compared to 40 percent by their opponents.

Dominican player Rigoberto Mendoza did a great job for Capitanes with 24 points, followed by Pedro Meza, Puerto Rican Emmanuel Andújar, and Gabriel Girón with 12 each.

AGUACATEROS COMES OUT ON TOP

Puerto Rican player Gilberto Clavell scored 35 points and Aguacateros de Morelia won an electrifying game that was decided in overtime, defeating Mineros de Zacatecas 98-95, to take a 1-0 lead in the playoffs of the National Professional Basketball League (LNBP).
