Mexico struggled but scored a goal and achieved a victory against Bosnia, a friendly match that represented the first commitment of the Tri in 2018.

Hugo Ayala received a cross from Javier Aquino in the 65th minute to break the scoreless tie and lead the Mexicans to victory in front of their fans, who gathered in San Antonio to watch the national team.

The selection was mostly composed of Liga MX players, since it was not a FIFA date, so only Carlos Vela, Giovani dos Santos, and his brother Jonathan were the only 'foreign' players who could be called up, as they were granted permission by the MLS, the American soccer league.

This match also marked the debut of Jonathan Gonzalez with the national team. The Rayados de Monterrey player had previously played in the lower divisions of the United States, but chose to represent Mexico.
