Swimmers Cross Border in Support of Immigrants

Twelve swimmers from the United States, Mexico, Israel, New Zealand, and South Africa crossed the border in support of immigrants.

The athletes were monitored by a Mexican Navy vessel when they arrived in Tijuana, the same place where they were cheered on by students and the country's top immigration official.

Kim Chambers, who organized the event, expressed excitement about the reception they received at the Mexican border.

"At the end of the day, water connects us all," the organizer mentioned.

The New Zealander mentioned that the idea came shortly after a group of swimmers crossed the Red Sea to raise environmental awareness.

This event was not meant as a protest, Chambers assured, but rather aimed at countering the negativity that followed Donald Trump's election.

In addition, funds were raised for the Colibri Center for Human Rights in Tucson, Arizona, a group that assists families in identifying immigrants who die in search of the 'American dream'.
