Despite having played 19 matches with the Mexican National Team and his first call-up being in 2009, Giovani's brother makes his first appearance tonight at the colossus of Santa Ursula during Costa Rica's visit to El Tri in the third round of the Concacaf Hexagonal.
Out of the 25 players called up by Juan Carlos Osorio for Mexico's presentation, only Jonathan and Oswaldo Alanís have not made their debut at the Estadio Azteca.
This match will only be the second World Cup qualifying match for the Villarreal midfielder, who played his first one on November 15th in Panama last year.
Since his first call-up in 2009 by Javier Aguirre, the younger Dos Santos has played 12 friendlies and six Copa Oro matches in 2015 under the command of Miguel Herrera, who considered him an undisputed starter.
In addition to that, there was the match prior to the participation of the Under-22 National Team in the 2011 Copa America with Luis Fernando Tena, when he played against Venezuela in June of the same year in the United States and after which he was separated along with seven other young players for disciplinary reasons.
Alanís, on the other hand, could also make his debut at the Estadio Azteca this Friday, although his case seems less likely than Dos Santos'.
The Chivas defender had his first call-up in June 2011 for the Copa America under Tena, but did not have any playing time. His first World Cup qualifying match was on November 17th, 2015, in Honduras.
This happened four days after Mexico started its journey to Russia 2018 against El Salvador at the Estadio Azteca, precisely when Dos Santos and Alanis remained on the bench, as they hope does not happen this week against Costa Rica.
