The former football player and coach of Bologna until September 2022 died at the age of 53
The football world is in mourning. Sinisa Mihajlovic, former football player and coach of Bologna until September 2022, died at the age of 53 after battling leukemia.
On July 13, 2019, the Serbian announced that he had been diagnosed with an acute form of leukemia, however, he remained as coach of Bologna until he was fired due to the team's five consecutive defeats.
"Unfortunately, this decision became inevitable, despite the strong emotional bond that was created with the club and the entire city in these last three and a half exciting and dramatic years," the Italian club said at that time.
The Serie A issued a statement following the death of the Serbian: "We deeply regret the passing of Siniša Mihajlović, an icon of football and life. His pure class as a player and coach, his strength, and his humanity are an example that leaves an indelible mark on Italian and world football."
Fiorentina, the club he coached between 2010 and 2011, posted a message on social media: "RIP Sinisa. Fiorentina mourns the death of Sinisa Mihajlovic and gathers around family and loved ones."
