Italy's selection started their participation in the UEFA Nations League this Saturday with a 1-1 draw against Germany, for the first match of Group 3 of League A. The image of the 'Azzurra' improved compared to the one against Argentina (a 3-0 defeat in the Finalissima), although the match left a great concern: Gianluigi Donnarumma got injured.
The match at the Renato Dall'Ara Stadium in Bologna developed without major difficulties, and Serbian referee Srdjan Jovanovic added five minutes as compensation. During that period of time, the teams did not stop attacking, and the 'Teutons' won a corner when there were only a few seconds left.
Joshua Kimmich was in charge of raising the center, but it did not generate any danger due to the intervention of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. However, the goalkeeper got injured when clearing the ball: the cameras captured how the ball bent some fingers on his left hand.
The goalkeeper of the Italian national team remained lying on the field, showing signs of great pain, while the referee blew his whistle to end the match. Immediately, the medical team that accompanies coach Roberto Mancini jumped onto the field to attend to the player.
Donnarumma was examined carefully, but there was no way to calm the severe pain he was feeling. A few minutes later, the PSG player managed to stand up, with some tears in his eyes, and headed to the dressing rooms, with ice on the affected area. The studies will determine the procedure that Gianluigi will follow to recover.
