The president of ANFP did not hide his disappointment and discontent after Chile's exclusion from the organization of the 2030 World Cup
News for 2030. The FIFA World Cup, to be held in that year after the 2026 edition, will begin its journey in South America; more precisely, Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay will be the host countries for the opening matches. Subsequently, it will continue in Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.
In a press conference, Alejandro Dominguez, president of CONMEBOL, explained that everything will start at the Centenario Stadium, where the first edition of the World Cup was held and will commemorate its centenary in 2030. He also responded to the question about the exclusion of Chile, a country that was part of the initial plan along with the three already mentioned.
"Originally, it was about two teams (Uruguay and Argentina), then Paraguay was added, and later the possibility of Chile was expanded, but it is a decision that FIFA finally makes. We know that Chile will have prominence in one way or another, but it is time to work thinking about the host countries that are already selected," said the leader.
In response, the southern country did not let the news pass by. The Chilean National Football Association (ANFP) expressed their opinion about this news that has resonated in our continent.
"Montevideo for being the centenary of the World Cup. Argentina for being the current champion and Paraguay for being a CONMEBOL host. I think that under these criteria that were analyzed, of course, we feel very hurt, but they also mentioned that since there were already three host countries representing two continents, Europe and Africa, there could not be four in South America. Seeking a balance of three and three," said Pablo Milad.
It is worth noting what CONMEBOL itself detailed on its official portals during February of this year 2023, highlighting Chile's presence in the initial plan.
"The Governments of Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, and Chile launched their joint candidacy on Tuesday, 07, to host the 2030 World Cup, when the 100th anniversary of the first World Cup that took place in Montevideo will be celebrated. It is an unprecedented four-party bid to host the biggest football event," they explained.
