Chile will host Peru this October 12th for the third matchday of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. FIFA appointed Colombian referee Wilmar Roldán as the main referee for the Pacific Classic, which was not well received by the 'Roja'.
Several Chilean media outlets stressed that Roldán has officiated seven matches involving the Chilean national team. Out of those, the 'Roja' only managed to win once. In the other occasions, the results were not favorable for their interests.
The only time Chile celebrated with Roldán as the referee was in the final of the 2015 Copa America, when they defeated Lionel Messi's Argentina on penalties.
Despite their victory against the 'Albiceleste', Chile has not won (in regular time) when the Colombian referee has officiated their matches.

Chile requested not to be officiated by Roldán again
Redgol recalled that during the 2021 Copa America, Chile played against Paraguay with Roldán as the referee. After the match, the Chilean Football Association (ANFP) reported the Colombian referee to prevent him from officiating their matches again.
Chile is concerned about the assignment of Wilmar Roldán. "A controversial referee every time he officiates the Chilean national team, who will have the future of the 'Roja' and Eduardo Berizzo's in his hands on the path of the qualifiers," expressed the Chilean media.
