This Thursday, November 24, Uruguay will face South Korea in the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Diego Godín, captain and defender of the Uruguayan team, spoke about this debut and his expectations for the match.
"We are filled with hope and enthusiasm. Tomorrow will be the moment of truth, to leave all those feelings aside and speak on the field," Godín said in a press conference.
Furthermore, the 'Pharaoh' added: "It is commitment and love for my country, for this shirt. It is the feeling that this team awakens. It is the sense of belonging that we have demonstrated all these years."
Regarding what the team led by Diego Alonso went through, Godín said: "After the Qualifiers we went through, so much criticism and being more outside than inside the World Cup, and with the departure of the coach (Tabárez) and the responsibility that the leaders felt, the qualification was a relief."
Finally, Godín was asked about the criticism: "I can't respond to that, those are opinions and I have to focus on what is necessary: training and being well. They are opinions and I can't respond to what others think."
