FIFA dismissed the claims of Peru and Chile regarding the case of Byron Castillo, so Ecuador maintains its spot in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. However, Eduardo Carlezzo, the attorney for 'La Roja', expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision of the governing body of football.
The representative of the ANFP believes that his presented arguments are valid. "I have never seen such an injustice in my entire life as a lawyer. There is an enormous amount of documents that, on their own, prove without any doubt that the player was born in Colombia," he stated in an interview with La Tercera from Chile.
"In addition, everyone heard his confession, given during an official investigation carried out by the Ecuadorian Federation itself. The player joked with the system by not attending a hearing, and none of that had any effect. What more is needed? Clearly it seems that anything we can present would not be enough to validate the claim," he added.
Similarly, Eduardo Carlezzo stated that Chile will go to higher instances. "A sad day for football and fair play. The message is clear: cheating is allowed. We will appeal to the TAS," he specified.
FEF President's message after learning FIFA's decision
After FIFA's ruling, Francisco Egas, the president of the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF), expressed himself through his official Twitter account. "Quietly, we continue to defend what we earned on the field," he said through social media.
In the same vein, the sports institution also shared an official statement: "FIFA ratifies its decision in favor of Ecuador!", it opens on the profile. "The Appeals Committee of the world football governing body resolved to ratify the decision to close the investigation in the case initiated by the ANFP and FPF against the FEF," it added.
