Firstly, it is clear to indicate that UEFA will continue with the highest number of spots for this World Cup to be played in 2026. European football will have a total of 16 direct tickets for the next World Cup.
Following that, Africa will have a total of 9 spots. Asia will increase the number of participants with 8, while CONCACAF and Conmebol will have 6 direct spots each.
Oceania is the big novelty as it will have a presence in the next World Cup for sure, and not necessarily in the playoffs. FIFA has provided them with a direct spot for that continent for the 2026 tournament.
Regarding the playoffs or repechage, there will be two available spots that will be distributed among two teams from CONCACAF, one from Africa, one from Asia, one from Conmebol, and one from Oceania. With that, the 48 spots for the 2026 World Cup would be completed.
