Chile would lose one of its goal threats for the match against the Peruvian National Team. Atlético Mineiro's forward, Eduardo Vargas, has an ankle injury that would sideline him for the next triple date of the Qatar 2022 Qualifiers.

"The forward Vargas suffered a sprained right ankle. The athlete is under treatment and continues to be evaluated daily by the club's medical department," the Brazilian club reported on social media about Vargas' situation.

In Chile, they already assume that Vargas would not make it to the matches against Peru, Paraguay, and Venezuela, which are crucial for the 'Roja' to keep their hopes alive of qualifying for the next World Cup.

"Although the Brazilians do not report the degree of the injury, it could be serious. At Juan Pinto Durán, they assume that he will not make it to the triple elimination date," La Tecera de Chile published, even stating that the 31-year-old forward would also not make it to the November matches of the qualifiers.

Peru has eight points, while Chile has seven. Both teams are looking to score points to get closer to the fifth position, which grants a spot in the playoff for Qatar 2022.
