San Salvador -
The authorities of El Salvador extradited former president of the Salvadoran Football Federation (Fesfut), Reynaldo Vásquez, to the United States on Friday, linked to the FIFA scandal and requested by the US Justice since 2015.
This was reported by the Office of the Attorney General, which stated that Vásquez is wanted for the crimes of "electronic fraud, conspiracy to launder money and money laundering".
The institution posted on its social media two photographs of Vásquez escorted to a plane by police officers.
Reynaldo Vásquez was President of the Normalizing Commission of FESFUT between 2009 and 2010.
According to the indictment by the US Department of Justice, the involved party would have received money from Media World in exchange for granting them marketing and media rights for the El Salvador national team for the qualifying games for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.
Media World started its relationship with FESFUT in October 2009 when both parties signed the first rights transfer contract (which expired in 2013), through Vásquez.
The second contract was signed, in advance, in 2012 and extends until 2018.
Authorities of the US Attorney's Office revealed in December 2015 a list of 16 individuals involved in bribery and related to Concacaf and Conmebol, including the Salvadoran. EFE Vásquez was captured on December 16, 2015 by order of the Fourteenth Peace Court of San Salvador, in response to an arrest warrant issued by the central Interpol located in Washington.
The resolution chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee banned Vásquez for life, considering him guilty of violating the organization's Code of Ethics for bribery.
Vásquez's extradition was approved by the Supreme Court of Justice in 2017, but it was delayed due to the criminal proceedings he faced in the country for "appropriation and retention of tax revenues". (D)
