Real Madrid Approves Creation of Women's Team
In the Extraordinary General Assembly of Commitment Shareholders held on September 15, 2019, Real Madrid approved the creation of its women's team through the absorption of CD Tacón. The vote had a clear majority with 810 votes in favor, 44 against, and 40 abstentions, with a start date set for July 1, 2020.
After the club submitted the documentation, it received the approval of the RFEF and Real Madrid announced that "the merger will be effective when the current 2019-20 football season is definitively concluded".
Real Madrid will compete in women's football competitions starting from the 2020-21 season, and the Ciudad Real Madrid will be the home of the women's team. They will train there daily and play each of their home games.
The arrival of women's football to the Madrid team goes hand in hand with the expansion of its youth academy, known as 'La Fábrica', with the creation of senior, youth, and cadet teams.
"A youth academy structure that will allow us to remain faithful to our philosophy of detecting, training, and developing young talents. Our teams will also compete in their respective competitions starting from the 2020-21 season," the statement reads.
Real Madrid acknowledges that it faces "this new challenge with enthusiasm" and with "the commitment to promote women's football and contribute to its development and growth in our society".
