Miguel Ángel Brindisi, technical director of Barcelona SC, returns to Guayaquil with the star signing of the toreros for that season: the midfielder Rubén Darío Insúa, who did not agree terms with Independiente de Avellaneda.

With several call-ups to the Argentine national team, Insúa had a poor start and, like the rest of the squad, did not perform well in the Copa Libertadores, where Barcelona finished last in their group between February and April. But after that, the Poet displayed all his footballing talent and was key in winning the national title that year.
The newspaper Clarín, in the special Independiente. 100 years, described Insúa as follows: "Fine player of remarkable quality. Cold, calculated, he had a unique knowledge of the game. He was an ideal strategist. In addition, he had a magnificent strike." He is one of the best foreigners in the history of Barcelona SC. (D)
