Tigres UANL Achieved Hard-Fought Victory in Concacaf Champions League

The Mexican club Tigres UANL achieved a hard-fought pass to the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions League on Wednesday, winning 4-2 with a goal from Argentine goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán in the last minute.

The team from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León reached the next phase with an aggregate score of 5-4 after losing the first leg 2-1.

In the series decider, Tigres took the lead in the ninth minute with a shot from Ecuadorian Enner Valencia inside the small area after receiving a pass from André-Pierre Gignac.

Gignac Makes it 2-0 for Tigres

Gignac scored the second goal for Tigres in the 17th minute with a finish past the goalkeeper after a soft touch from Luis Rodríguez. The French forward completed his brace in the 23rd minute from the penalty spot.

Alianza pulled one back in the 33rd minute through Carlos Portillo, who finished past Guzmán after a pass from Marvin Monterroza. He completed his brace in the 42nd minute with a close-range shot following a pass from Mario Jacobo.

When it seemed like Alianza was going to achieve their historic pass to the quarterfinals, Guzmán scored the winning goal in the 94th minute with a header from a cross sent by Chilean Eduardo Vargas after a foul from the right side.

Thus, Tigres will face New York City from the United States in the next round, who eliminated San Carlos from Costa Rica with an aggregate score of 6-3. (D)
