This Friday starts the nineteenth day of the League.
With the Leganés-Getafe, the second round of a competition that has reached its midpoint without a clear dominant and with many teams still immersed in the fight for the top positions as well as the battle to avoid relegation will kick off.
After reviewing the first 18 matchdays, we have dared to compose a team in which some of the players who have performed the best are included. For example, for the goalkeeper, we have chosen Aitor Fernández (Levante). Although reliable goalkeepers like Marc André ter Stegen, Jan Oblak, or Thibaut Courtois have shown flashes of their talent, the fact that the Basque goalkeeper has made the most saves so far (84) has finally led to a choice in which the name of the promising Unai Simón (Athletic Club) has also been considered.
The defense of our ideal team is formed by two players from Sevilla and another pair from Athletic Club, squads that have offered a sensational defensive performance at the start of the season. The Sevillians contribute the tireless right-back Jesús Navas and the powerful and reliable Brazilian center-back Diego Carlos; while the Basques do the same with the vertical left winger Yuri Berchiche and the solid center-back Iñigo Martínez. Names like Dani Carvajal, Sergio Reguilón, Ander Capa, or Felipe Monteiro have also been considered.
Talent and goal to complete the midfield and the attack
In the midfield, we place three players who have shined on their own throughout these months: the Uruguayan Fede Valverde, the Norwegian Martin Odegaard, and the Basque Mikel Oyarzabal. The first one has taken a sensational step forward this season and has become one of the new leaders of Real Madrid; while the other two have been the main responsible for the good impression with which Real Sociedad has ended its first round. In a hypothetical bench, players like Éver Banega, José Campaña, Santi Cazorla, or Thomas Partey could remain.
Choosing the forwards has been a difficult task. Finally, and after leaving out strikers of the caliber of Luis Suárez, Loren Morón, Roger Martí, or Gerard Moreno, we have ended up choosing a trio that combines talent, goals, and the combative spirit of the emerging Chimy Ávila (Osasuna). Alongside the Argentine, his compatriot Leo Messi (FC Barcelona) and the Frenchman Karim Benzema (Real Madrid).
