The Barcelona is negotiating with Palmeiras for the signing of Brazilian midfielder Matheus Fernandes, 21 years old. The blaugrana team has already made an initial offer to the board of Palmeiras, sports press reports on Tuesday.
According to GloboEsporte, the 'culé' team is willing to pay 27 million reais (about 6 million euros) for the midfielder who came through the youth ranks of Botafogo and of whom they still retain part of his rights.
Matheus Fernandes joined Palmeiras in December 2018 after being one of the revelations of the Brasileirão that year, and signed a contract until the end of 2023.
Born in Itaboraí, state of Rio de Janeiro, and standing at 1.83 meters tall, he stands out for his defensive ability and his quality to bring the ball out from the back.
Prior to his transfer to the green team, Fernandes had already been the target of major European clubs. He is also a regular in the calls for the Brazilian youth teams.
In 2019, in his first season with Palmeiras, the midfielder had very few opportunities, although he ended the year as a starter under interim coach Andrey Lopes. He played 12 games and scored one goal. (Information from EFE)
