Chile suspends friendly match with Bolivia and confirms match with Peru
"The situation is complicated in both countries (Chile and Bolivia) and we agreed to organize a friendly match with them soon," ANFP president Sebastián Moreno told the press to explain the reasons for this suspension.
At the same time, ANFP confirmed that the match scheduled for November 19 against Peru in Lima is still on and that for this match, the Chilean coach Reinaldo Rueda will only call up players who play abroad.
"The national coach has determined that for the match against Peru, only those players who play outside of Chile will be called up, so that the players from the local league are able to progress in the tournament if the difficult situation we are experiencing is resolved," Moreno added.
The last time Chile faced Peru was in the semifinals of the Copa America in Brazil last July, and they were eliminated from the final after a crushing 0-3 defeat.
Chile has been experiencing an unprecedented social uprising since the end of the Augusto Pinochet dictatorship in 1990, with massive street demonstrations and riots that were initially repressed by the police and the armed forces and have so far claimed the lives of at least 20 people, six of whom are foreigners.
