Chile defeats Haiti 4-2 in the Under-17 World Cup

The South Americans, who had suffered a 2-0 defeat in their debut against France, scored through Luis Rojas, an own goal by Woodbens Ceneus, Gonzalo Tapias, and David Tati, while Samuel Jeanty, from the penalty spot, and Kervens Jolicoeur scored for Haiti.

The first minutes of the match were dominated by the Haitians, led by Venezuelan coach Miguel Perdomo, who had lost 2-1 against South Korea in their first match.

But despite Haiti's lively start, it was the Chileans who opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a goal from Rojas after a free kick by Tapias.

With evenly balanced action in the first half, Haiti equalized at 37 minutes with a penalty converted by Jeanty, but an own goal by Ceneus gave Chile a partial advantage at halftime.

In the second half, with Haiti pushing for an equalizer, Chile scored another early goal through Tapia in the 52nd minute, but the Caribbean team did not lower their guard and three minutes later Jolicoeur's goal brought them close again in the scoreline.

In the 89th minute, after Jeanty was sent off for a second yellow card, Tati sealed the 4-2 victory for Chile with a free kick, keeping their hopes of qualifying alive.

Earlier, in the same venue, France secured their early qualification by defeating South Korea 3-1 with goals from Isaac Lihadji, Timothee Pembele, and Arnaud Kalimuendo Muinga, while Sang-Bin Jeong scored for the Asians, who despite the loss, remain in the competition.

On Saturday, in the third matchday that will close Group C, Chile and South Korea will determine their qualification in Cariacica, Vitória metropolitan region, while France will defend their leadership against Haiti at the Serrinha stadium in Goiania.
