Offer made to Franz Beckenbauer to support Russia's bid for the World Cup 2018
The offer, according to the magazine, was made by an adviser to Franz Beckenbauer, Fritz Radmann.
"Der Spiegel" refers to some emails that have been published on the Russian platform "The Insider".
In one of those emails, a member of the committee to promote the Russian bid, Alexander Dschordschadse, informs of a alleged change of position by Beckenbauer after some "contacts".
"Previously, he supported the English bid. But after having contacts with advisers to the Australian bid, we have received information that FB is willing to support the Russian bid", the email states.
"A meeting is desired in Moscow with representatives from the bid. Beckenbauer's adviser, Fedor Radmann, offers his vote in exchange for a generous compensation", it adds.
The selection of Russia as the host of the 2018 World Cup took place in 2010. In 2012, Beckenbauer signed a contract as a sports ambassador for a Russian gas consortium.
Beckenbauer had already faced allegations of irregularities in his role as president of the organizing committee for the 2006 World Cup.
