The Inter Milan full-back did not want to leave the field in his debut for Italy, so he decided to continue despite Roberto Mancini already having ordered the substitution.

Danilo D'Ambrosio, a lateral for Inter Milan and the Italian national team, played 80 minutes of the match against Greece last Saturday with a fractured toe, as evidenced by medical tests carried out on Monday. D'Ambrosio made his official debut for Italy on Saturday at the Olympic Stadium in Rome and, despite getting injured in the 10th minute, he wanted to continue playing until the end, even though manager Roberto Mancini had already called Armando Izzo to replace him.

"Radiographic examinations for Danilo D'Ambrosio after the problem suffered in the Euro 2020 qualifying match between Italy and Greece. For the Inter defender, there was a fracture in the fourth toe of his right foot," read the official statement published on Monday by the Milanese club.

D'Ambrosio, 31, was treated by the medical staff of the Italian national team and, after visibly limping in his first few minutes on the field, managed to finish the match, in which Italy defeated Greece 2-0 and secured their place in the Euro.

The right-back will undergo further tests next week, Inter announced, and will miss the league match against Sassuolo on Sunday. EFE
