Italian midfielder Claudio Marchisio, seven-time champion of Italy with Juventus, announced on Thursday that he is retiring at the age of 33.

"I am a Turin guy who dreamed of playing for Juve and has achieved it," Marchisio said at a press conference organized at Juventus Stadium.

Nicknamed 'Il Principino' (the little prince), Marchisio has been part of the youth categories of the 'Vecchia Signora' since he was 7 years old.

In 2006, he played his first professional match with 'Juve' and wore the 'bianconera' shirt for 12 seasons, until 2018, uninterrupted except for a year loaned to Empoli.

Injured seriously in his left knee in 2016, he did not recover his starting position upon his return and ended his contract amicably in August 2018.

He then joined Zenit St. Petersburg, but his last season was once again full of injuries and he chose to end his career.

A refined and complete midfielder, Marchisio played almost 400 matches with Juventus and won 7 championship titles and 4 Italian Cups with the Piedmontese squad.

The player also lost two Champions League finals with Juve and was runner-up in Europe in 2012 with the Italian national team, whose colors he defended on 55 occasions.
