The FIBA Basketball World Cup in China includes a mini-tournament that awards seven places for next year's Games. The two best European teams, the two American teams, one from Africa, one from Asia, and one from Oceania qualify.
This will be Argentina's fifth consecutive participation in an Olympic Games, in which they won gold in Athens 2004 and bronze four years later in Beijing.
"We still can't believe it. We looked at each other, hugged and congratulated each other. It was kind of weird because it happened without playing, even though we played and won all the games, it's strange that the qualification happened without playing. But we are very happy, very satisfied. We don't lose track either, tomorrow we have a tough opponent (Serbia), but we want to keep improving and we want to compete", said Facundo Campazzo in an interview with TyC Sports.
The quarterfinals open on Tuesday with the matches Spain-Poland and Serbia-Argentina.
