International Brazilian Philippe Coutinho said today during his presentation that he hoped to be "many years" with Bayern Munich and win many titles with the Bavarian club.
"I hope to be here many years and win many titles," said Coutinho at his first press conference, alongside the club's sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and the president of the Executive Board Karlheinz Rummenigge.
"When Hasan asked me if I wanted to come to Bayern, I had no doubt," said Coutinho.
Rummenigge, on the other hand, thanked FC Barcelona for the atmosphere in which the negotiations had taken place to bring Coutinho to Munich, with a one-season loan that also includes a purchase option.
"I thank FC Barcelona for the cordial negotiations, as well as Philippe, his family and his agent. I believe that with him our team gains quality," said Rummenigge.
Rummenigge described the loan fee, 8.5 million euros (9.4 million dollars), as a "friendly price" compared to the figures currently being exchanged in the market, although he later admitted that the purchase option is for a high price.
"8.5 million euros is a friendly price. With few clubs do we have such close relationships as with Barcelona, which did not want to block the operation because Philippe wanted to come to Munich at all costs," he said.
For Rummenigge, the plans with Coutinho are long-term and he highlighted the fact that, to emphasize the importance of the player, he was given the number 10, which Arjen Robben had for nine seasons.
"Hasan had a conversation this morning with Arjen Robben. Originally, we didn't want to give anyone the number 7 or 10 this season, as recognition of what Arjen and Franck Ribery did for the club," said the official.
"But we decided to give Philippe the number 10 to show what the operation means to us. Arjen had no problem with it and wished us all good luck," he added.
