The Law of High-Level Athletes
The Law of High-Level Athletes proposed by Leyla Chihuan has been enacted this Friday. The benefit it will bring to Peruvian athletes is that they can have a professional contract with the State.
The benefits that athletes did not have
1. They do not have an employment contract
2. They do not receive a salary
3. They do not have life insurance
4. They do not have social benefits
5. They do not have vacation days
6. In the case of female athletes, they do not have pre and postnatal protection
Changes after the Law of High-Level Athletes
Now, athletes will have a professional contract through which they should receive a salary and have access to medical insurance. In addition, athletes will contribute to a fund that guarantees their retirement. With this, they seek to achieve equality with other professions.
How will it be implemented?
This law will be effective after the Executive Power, led by President Martin Vizcarra and his Council of Ministers, establishes a regulation. It will define who declares athletes as high-level athletes, contract duration, payments, among other topics. It must be developed within a period of 60 days.
