Frustration grows in Emelec after fourth home defeat of the season

The 0-1 defeat against Delfin last Sunday was the fourth home defeat of the season for Emelec. According to Ismael Rescalvo, his team is suffering from an "excess of anxiety" and is lacking "calmness" during the matches they play.

Before the defeat against Delfin, Emelec had been defeated by Fuerza Amarilla, Barcelona, and Deportivo Cuenca.

"The team is lacking calmness. There have been many matches where, in difficult moments, it has struggled to have the necessary calmness to make decisions. I feel that sometimes there is an excess of anxiety," commented the coach in the post-match press conference.

 

"We know where to attack, but in the end, due to technical rushing, we have been lacking (in finishing). We tried with side crosses and long shots (to equalize), but we need to keep working," the Spanish coach expressed.

Rescalvo insisted that his team failed in the creation of plays and considered that after scoring with Carlos Garces' goal, Delfin limited themselves to defend.

"We knew the opponent would retreat and defend. They were fortunate to score with their first chance. When it came to generating plays, we failed in the passes that, if made, would give the team continuity and allow us to finish the plays. At times, the team puts a lot of heart and energy, but I think we need to use our heads a little more and maintain composure in stressful moments of the match," concluded the Spanish coach. (D)
