FIFA suspends former president of the Liberian Football Association (LFA) for ten years for corruption
Musa Hassan Bility, currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), was also fined 500,000 Swiss francs (455,000 euros) by the FIFA Independent Ethics Committee judges.
The FIFA investigation against Bility, which began in May 2018, is "related to the embezzlement of funds granted within the framework of the FIFA '11 against Ebola' campaign," the world football governing body said in a statement.
This campaign, which saw football stars promote Ebola awareness measures, was launched in November 2014 when a pandemic was hitting Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea and killed more than 11,000 people.
In addition to embezzling sums intended for the anti-Ebola fight, FIFA judges declared Bility guilty of misusing other resources sent to the LFA and diverting funds to companies controlled by him or his family.
Bility had attempted to run as a candidate to replace ousted FIFA president Sepp Blatter in the 2015 campaign eventually won by Gianni Infantino.
However, the Liberian was not allowed to run after suspending the required integrity tests. (I)
