The Mexican fencer, Nataly Michel, has trained in Italy with the intention of raising her level, a situation that she considers has been beneficial.

Mexican fencer Nataly Michel Silva has no regrets about her decision to go on an adventure to Italy in order to improve her competitive level, feeling that the National High Performance Center, where she trained for several years, had already offered her everything it could.

The athlete from Jalisco mentioned that this preparation stage, which has been going on for a month, was reflected in the Satellite Fencing Tournament held in Barcelona, where she finished in seventh place. In the foil category, Silva defeated Spanish fencer Natalia Vicente 15-1, then defeated British fencer Chloe Dickson (15-10) and Irish fencer Anna Lee (15-10), but later lost to Colombian fencer Van Erven (12-15).

"I am happy with the improvements I have made. Obviously, I wanted to win that competition, where I had good fights and I think a Satellite Cup had never been so well contested. I lost to the Colombian who won the competition. We had a very close fight and she made the difference in the last moment. I am very happy to be training in Italy and I have seen improvements from my confidence to technical and tactical things, which I have been learning in recent days," declared the national fencer.

Silva has been training in Italy for over a month already and this weekend she will compete in the Grand Prix in Anaheim, California, where about 300 participants will gather. In this event, Nataly will once again test the improvements she has made in her European training.

"I was out of competition for almost a year because of my knee, and I have really enjoyed what I have experienced in Italy, as I train with the best in the world. In the end, I am happy to continue in this country and I am ready for what is to come," she mentioned.

After that event in the United States, the fencer hopes that the issue of her visa will have been resolved, allowing her to obtain employment in Italy and generate income since she is paying for her own accommodation, food, and training. If not, she hopes that her results will be a good justification for the sports authorities to support her in continuing her training in Italy.

"The Mexican Fencing Federation and the Italian federation are working to get me the visa, and I hope that the results will continue to improve so that I can receive support from the government and continue living here, or that my visa allows me to work. Life here is expensive and there is always an unforeseen circumstance that makes you spend more," explained the athlete.
