The Swiss Joseph Blatter, president of FIFA for 17 years (1998-2015) and currently sanctioned for violating the organization's code of ethics, is considering legal action against it to clear his name.
"We are working on the case and hope to develop it. My intention is to review the decision of the Ethics Committee and the evidence I have received in relation to my suspension," said Joseph Blatter on Thursday.
In statements to Reuters, via email, Blatter referred to this option that would take place in Swiss courts, days after Frenchman Michel Platini, former president of UEFA sanctioned by FIFA for the same reason, confirmed that he has appealed his punishment to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
Joseph Blatter, 81 years old, presided over FIFA since 1998 and resigned from office in June 2015, days after being reelected to the position, in the midst of the corruption scandal known as "FIFAGate".
In October of that year, he was temporarily banned for 90 days by the FIFA Ethics Committee and later for eight years, a penalty that the Appeals Committee later reduced to six years.
