The FIFA proposal to expand the number of participants for the next editions of the 'Club World Cup' has already started to generate questions. Conmebol, according to Brazilian media, would be uncomfortable with the unequal treatment that its confederation would receive compared to UEFA, as Europe would have more than twice as many teams as South America.

According to the same media, increasing the number of South American clubs at the expense of European clubs could affect FIFA's main sponsors. That would be the main reason why the governing body of football would decide to give more spots to European teams (12 teams to Europe, 5 to South America) for the 'Super Club World Cup', which would come into effect in 2021.

For that reason, Conmebol would request new meetings with FIFA before a final decision is made. It is also speculated that South America could get a sixth representative if a hypothetical playoff with the best team from Oceania is finally applied.
