The selector of Bolivia, Mauricio Soria, will not be able to be on the bench in the match against Brazil in the penultimate round of the Russia 2018 Qualifiers after FIFA applied a sanction to him.
In a note addressed to the Bolivian Football Federation (FBF), the Disciplinary Committee of FIFA reported that Soria "was expelled at the end of the match" against Chile played last week in La Paz "for using insulting and humiliating gestures (middle finger) to Chilean players".
Soria's action was specifically directed at the Chilean footballer Jean Beausejour. The Bolivian coach and the FBF have until next Monday to send "any comments or probative means" related to the matter so that the committee takes it into account in its deliberations.
More sanctions. In another note, the Disciplinary Committee also reported a fine of 9,500 dollars that the FBF must pay for sanctions applied for "misconduct" also during the match against Chile to four players and two officials of the Bolivian team whose names were not specified.
The decision is based on the reports of the refereeing authorities and maintains that this is the third case of "misconduct" by the Bolivian team in the competition. Bolivia defeated Chile 1-0 in the match played last Tuesday in La Paz, in which there was tension and mutual insults between both benches in the last few minutes. EFE
