The coach of Bolivia, Mauricio Soria, will not be able to be on the bench in the match against Brazil in the penultimate round of the Russia 2018 qualifiers after FIFA announced a sanction to him on Monday.
In a note addressed to the Bolivian Football Federation (FBF), the Disciplinary Commission of FIFA informed that Soria "was expelled at the end of the match" against Chile played last week in La Paz "for using insulting and humiliating gestures (cut-off sleeves) towards Chilean players".
Soria's action was specifically directed towards the Chilean player Jean Beausejour. "In view of this, we are opening a disciplinary process against the official (Soria) and we will submit the case at the next meeting of the Disciplinary Commission, so that disciplinary sanctions can be imposed against the official (additional suspension, fine, etc.)", the notification states.
The Bolivian coach and the FBF have until next Monday to send "any comments or evidentiary means" related to the matter so that the commission takes it into account in their deliberation.
In another note, the Disciplinary Commission also reported a fine of 9,000 Swiss francs (around $9,500) that the FBF must pay for sanctions applied due to "wrong behavior" also during the match against Chile to four players and two officials from the Bolivian team whose names were not specified.
The decision is based on the reports of the refereeing officials and maintains that it is the third case of "wrong behavior" by the Bolivian team in the competition.
Bolivia defeated Chile 1-0 in the match played last Tuesday in La Paz, in whose last minutes there was tension and mutual insults between both benches.
