Real Madrid celebrated the acquisition of their 12th Champions League in Cardiff, thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo. Not only that, they became the first team to win back-to-back titles since the new format of the European tournament was created.
And although everyone celebrated the title against Juventus, the UEFA championship cannot be included in Rubén Yáñez's honors, as the Real Madrid third goalkeeper didn't play a single minute in the 13 games the team played.
He lifted the Champions League trophy and took a medal home, but the regulations of the competition are clear. Yáñez should have at least played a minute to officially be part of the team that won the twelfth title in Wales.
"The winners are those players who have played on the winning team of the UEFA Champions League. The substitutes without minutes or unused squad members do not count", explains the European organization on its official website.
