UEFA Trophies to be Presented on the Field

The presentation of the Champions League trophies, both men's and women's, as well as the Europa League trophy, will take place on the field starting this year, according to a decision made by UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin.

Ceferin's decision, according to his own words provided by UEFA, is based on the fact that "the field is the players' stage and it makes sense for their achievements to be celebrated there."

"It also makes sense for leaders to come down to the field from the stands to meet with the players (on their turf) and pay tribute to them by presenting the trophy and medals on the playing surface," Ceferin adds.

Therefore, the trophies will be presented by the UEFA president on the field to the winning captains in the finals of the Europa League, at the Friends Arena in Stockholm on May 24, the Women's Champions League, at the Cardiff City Stadium on June 1, and the Men's Champions League, at the National Stadium of Wales on June 3.

For this purpose, stages have been built for these ceremonies, which will take place at the three venues, and their assembly is completed in less than five minutes, reports the European football governing body.

"Players will be able to celebrate the title with their teammates on the field in front of all the fans without the interruption of having to go up to the stands. Moreover, all fans will have a perfect view of the trophy presentation regardless of their location in the stadium," says the UEFA president.

The measure, it is noted, will now become a common practice for all UEFA club and national team competitions.
