MEXICO - Edson Álvarez's first adventure in the Premier League is celebrated by the footballer with his family; his parents did not leave him alone in such an important moment. Mom and dad are with their son in England, where he was confirmed as a reinforcement for West Ham United this Thursday.

"Edson knew that this summer he would leave, but not where or with which team," says Evaristo Álvarez to ESPN from Europe.

"Thank God it happened in the Premier League. We are happy with him and his family, enjoying the moment," added Evaristo Álvarez.

After four years wearing the Ajax jersey, Edson Álvarez makes the leap from the Netherlands to England, which for him and his loved ones means a great step in his career that began at Club América; in October 2016, he was making his debut in the First Division of the Mexican League.

"What can I say, that we continue to support Edson as parents in his new decisions that this wonderful sport has given him," says Evaristo Álvarez, who points out that soccer has given a lot to his son and vice versa.

"Blessed soccer that has already taken him to participate in one of the best leagues in the world; Edson knew that this summer he would leave, but not where or with which team," Evaristo Álvarez emphasizes.

Edson Álvarez was born in Tlalnepantla de Baz, State of Mexico, 25 years ago. As a footballer, he trained in Coapa, in Mexico City, where his father took him to train when he was still not 17 years old.

Ricardo La Volpe is the one who gave him that first opportunity that every player seeks, to debut in the top flight. On October 29, 2016, he started against Santos at the Estadio Azteca. His number was 282 on the back, higher numbers than those played by the U-20 category of the Eagles, led by Israel Hernández Pat. What followed next is a story that everyone knows: being a starter, playing for the Mexican National Team, and jumping to Europe with Ajax (2019). Today, he is a prominent reinforcement for West Ham United and will play with the number 19.
