The footballers' curse: injuries and indefinite absence.Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will now undergo surgery. This means the striker will miss the rest of the season, announced his club, Los Angeles Galaxy from MLS.

Hernandez will be operated on in the coming days to start the rehabilitation process. The official announcement was made on the Los Angeles Galaxy's social media channels on Friday morning, ahead of their match against St. Louis City on Sunday.

'Chicharito' played nine matches this season in the MLS, and in the US Open Cup, he played in three matches, all as a starter, until his injury this week against Real Salt Lake in the quarterfinal.

The striker is considered the all-time leading scorer of the Mexican national team with 52 goals and one of the best Mexican footballers alongside Hugo Sanchez, Rafael Marquez, and Cuauhtemoc Blanco, among others.

Furthermore, Hernandez has played for various international teams. His first experience was with Manchester United in the 2010/11 season, where he became a Premier League champion.

The other teams where 'Chicharito' played were Real Madrid (alongside Cristiano Ronaldo), Bayer Leverkusen, West Ham United, and Sevilla in Spain. He is currently the captain of Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS.
